Solar Panel Costs in Scotland, Explained
Most people pay
£8,000-£12,000
fully installed and commissioned
The straight answer: the vast majority of solar systems people actually buy cost between £8,000 - £12,000. The exact figure depends on how many panels fit your roof and whether you add a battery.

What Moves the Price Up or Down
No two roofs cost exactly the same. These four factors account for most of the difference between quotes.
Panel count and roof size
More panels mean more hardware and more labour on the day. A compact 10-panel system costs less than an 18-panel one, and the size and shape of your roof decide how many fit.
Battery size
A storage battery typically adds £4,500-£8,000 depending on capacity and brand. It is the biggest single variable, which is why each of our packages pairs a different battery with its panels.
Scaffolding
We'll need to view your property to see how much scaffolding is needed. We have light scaffolding towers for small projects but full scaffolding can cost £500-£1500+ depending on complexity. Our surveyors will let you know and our quotes are for fully installed & commissioned systems so no hidden prices.
Roof type and access
Steep pitches, taller buildings, dormers and unusual roof materials can add time and equipment. A straightforward install on a standard roof keeps the labour cost down.

10 solar panels
4.8 kW of solar power from premium Aiko or LONGi 480W panels. Bigger roof, more power.
Tap a panel to remove it, or tap an empty space to add one.
Add a battery
Solar powers your home in the day. A battery stores what you don't use, so you can use your own solar electricity in the evening too.
Battery size
About 5 kWh each.
How many?
1 battery, up to 3.
Stores spare daytime power for the evening. The exact size depends on the brand, so each one below shows what it actually fits.

0% VAT Until 31 March 2027
Home solar and battery installations are currently zero-rated for VAT across Great Britain as part of a government initiative. The 0% rate runs out 31 March 2027. It is not a discount we add on top.
It applies automatically to every VAT-registered installer's price, so every figure on this page already includes it.

Panels run on daylight, not heat. Here are three real Viking systems, read from their own meters, answering the three things people say to us most.
Inverness
Too far north to be worth it?
This one runs further north than Moscow. Panels work on daylight, not heat, and the far north gets very long summer days.
