West Coast Roof Knowledge

Salt air on the Ayr and Troon coast, exposed roofs above Cumnock and the Irvine Valley, sandstone villas in Kilmarnock — Ayrshire roofs vary a lot, and we design each system around what's actually up there.

Ayrshire is SP Energy Networks territory, and most solar-and-battery systems need their 'G99' approval before switch-on. We submit it as part of your quote and build the wait into your installation plan.

Ayrshire Solar Questions

Entry-level systems start from £3,999, and a typical Ayrshire installation lands between £6,000-£12,000 depending on panel count, battery size and your roof. That covers the full job — scaffolding, the grid application and MCS paperwork included. We confirm an exact figure at a free survey.

The honest way to answer that is with measured data. A 12-panel, 5.46 kWp system we installed in Mauchline in March 2025 generated a measured 4,837 kWh in the 12 months to July 2026 and met 58% of the household electricity use, avoiding an estimated £886 of electricity costs over that year — an estimate based on its measured generation at typical tariff rates, not a guarantee. Your own figure depends on your roof, usage and tariff. The system is on our live map, so go and check it.

Ayrshire's official MCS yield figure is about 840 kWh per kWp each year for a well-placed roof, so a typical 4 kWp system could produce around 3,350 kWh a year. Orientation, pitch and shading all move the real number — we confirm yours at survey, and our live Mauchline install gives you a measured local benchmark to compare against.

Most Ayrshire homes don't — roof-mounted solar is normally permitted development. The exceptions are listed buildings and conservation areas, such as parts of central Ayr, Culzean and some coastal villages, where the local council applies extra rules. We check this for you at the survey and flag anything that needs council sign-off.

Ayrshire is covered by SP Energy Networks, and most solar-and-battery systems need their approval (a 'G99 application') before switch-on. No hassle for you — we submit it as part of your quote and build the waiting time into your installation plan.

All three council areas. North Ayrshire (Irvine, Kilwinning, Saltcoats, Ardrossan, Largs), East Ayrshire (Kilmarnock, Cumnock, Mauchline — where our live monitored system sits — Stewarton and Galston) and South Ayrshire (Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Maybole, Girvan). If you're in Ayrshire, we cover you.
