Why Invest in Battery Storage?

A solar battery is the key to unlocking true energy independence, allowing you to use your own clean energy day and night.

An EcoFlow home battery, solar inverter and backup gateway installed on an outside wall. The gateway is the smaller dark unit on the lower right, labelled in the picture.

Gain Energy Security

Add a gateway to keep your essential appliances running during power cuts to ensure your battery can provide a seamless backup power source when the grid goes down.

Reduce Bills with Off-Peak Tariffs

Charge your battery with cheap, off-peak electricity overnight and use it during expensive peak hours, helping you reduce what you pay.

Off-peak tariffs are subject to a compatible smart meter and supplier eligibility checks.

Maximise Solar Self-Consumption

Store the excess solar energy you generate during the day and use it at night, dramatically reducing what you need to buy back from the grid.

Future-Proof Your Home

A battery makes your home cheaper to run, more attractive to buyers, and ready for the dynamic tariffs that pay you to store cheap power.

How Battery Storage Works for You

On a time-of-use tariff, electricity prices vary through the day. Your battery can charge at lower rates and power your home when rates rise.

Prices change every half hour; overnight is usually the cheaper time

Estimated saving with a time-of-use tariff and a 5 kWh battery

around £360 a year

The tariff change alone: around £80 less a year.

The battery reduces the bill by around £280 a year.

Illustrative annual bill saving, before battery purchase and installation costs. Your usage, system and tariff affect the result. We can review your estimate at a free survey.

It fills up when power is cheap. From your own panels through the middle of the day, or from off-peak overnight rates if you have no solar yet.

It holds that power until you need it. Rather than selling spare energy back to the grid for a fraction of what you pay to buy it, your battery keeps it.

Your home runs on it when rates spike. Through the evening peak, the most expensive hours of the day come off your battery instead of off the grid.

How this estimate is worked out

Scale shows pence per unit and starts at 12p, not zero. Chart: the average unit rate for each half hour of the day on a smart time-of-use electricity tariff, southern Scotland, over the 12 months to 26 August 2026. Hover or tap any bar to see that real average. Rates move every day and every region differs. Time-of-use tariffs need a compatible smart meter and are subject to your supplier's eligibility checks. The annual estimate scales twelve modelled days, one for each month, by the number of days in that month. For the half-hourly tariff it uses twelve representative historical price days; the other tariffs use their published daily price bands. It assumes more electricity use in winter and an illustrative pattern for each type of home. EV charging is bought overnight and is excluded from the battery saving; the heat pump example assigns half of annual use to heating and hot water. The model chooses a low-cost battery schedule with each day's prices known in advance. It compares the resulting electricity bill, including standing charges, with a flat-rate bill. This is an illustration, not a forecast of next year's prices or your actual use. The suggested size reflects extra bill savings as capacity increases, not purchase cost or payback. This battery-only example excludes solar generation, export income, battery purchase and installation costs. It assumes 90% usable capacity, 90% round-trip efficiency and a charge/discharge limit of half the battery capacity per hour. Estimated battery savings are reduced by 6% as an allowance for operating differences. These are modelling assumptions, not a guarantee for a particular battery.

Rate examples use Octopus Energy's published southern Scotland data. Check the current smart tariff details and eligibility. A compatible smart meter and the supplier's eligibility checks are required; EV and heating tariffs also have equipment requirements. The Valhalla Guarantee

Our Word, In Writing

No asterisks the size of icebergs. Three promises, plain English.

  1. Your deposit is protected

Independent insurance covers it from the moment you pay it. Your deposit is never at risk. Pay your deposit by credit card if you like, so Section 75 protection applies. The final payment is only due once your system is installed and working.

  2. Our workmanship is guaranteed for ten years

A decade of cover on the work itself, backed by insurance rather than a handshake. If anything needs putting right, we put it right.

  3. Your first year's output is guaranteed

If your system generates less than its official MCS production estimate, you're covered in full, on the rare chance it's ever needed.

Small print: Your deposit and our 10-year workmanship guarantee are insured through the IWA. Manufacturer faults, your bill savings, and an obvious mistake in the written estimate itself are not covered. Full terms in your contract.
